Butterfly Farm and Curious Creatures

At Ramsgate Butterfly Valley, we specialize in South African butterflies. Unlike most other butterfly farms which import pupae, we breed most of our own butterflies and are therefore able to present the entire life-cycle of these amazing creatures to the public. For a fun and educational outing for the entire family, come and spend a relaxing few hours with us in our Valley of Butterflies.

From the flight dome, you will be able to visit Curious Creatures which is home to some familiar but also some very unusual and fascinating creatures.

Absorb the relaxing atmosphere at Butterfly Valley while learning about one of natures greatest miracles.

Because most of the butterflies of Ramsgate are bred on the local farm (as opposed to being imported, like many similar tourist attractions), visitors are able to see the entire life cycle of these intriguing insects. Ramsgate Butterfly Valley specialises in a plethora of indigenous South African butterfly species. This involves protecting them within a natural environment, educating the public about them and allowing visitors to experience being a part of the butterflies’ home in a very special, hands-on way.

Visitors can amble around freely in the flight dome, with the at-home butterflies flitting around and perching nearby. Because these creatures know that they are safe in these surrounds, they often allow the guests to come very close to them, enjoying every detail on the colourful wings and their fascinating antics. The Life Cycle Tour educates visitors about the stages that take place, from pupa to butterfly and everything in-between.

Besides the butterflies, we also have a craft shop, tea garden, and a short river walk.
